About Me

Hi, I'm Susan.

Before you turn your precious body over to any professional, you should absolutely know more about them!

Here’s a bit about me, my beliefs, approach, and credentials.

(If you’re most interested in credentials, take this shortcut.)

I'm on a mission.

Now in my 6th decade, I’ve spent the last 20 years working with lots of bodies that are changing — either with age (because let’s face it, we DO change), medical conditions or some degree of injury. These can range from mild arthritis or back pain to joint replacements or neurological disorders and many conditions in between.

I want us all to understand and befriend our bodies, so we can keep doing our favorite things for as long as we want to do them.

You deserve better.

It breaks my heart to see people uncomfortable and trapped by their perceived inability to move more and without pain, because no one has introduced them to ways that:

  • will make movement easier,
  • reduce their pain, and
  • give them back their lives.

I’ve been there, and it wasn’t easy to find the right help.

It should be easier for maturing bodies to find the guidance, instruction, and support they need to live a vibrant life.

My approach is built on these ideas and experiences:

  • If we’re going to live longer, we should be able to enjoy it – whatever that means for each of us.
  • Most of us have not really been taught how our bodies work, and how to take the best care of them.
  • The kinder we are to our bodies, the more likely they are to thrive.
  • Each person’s movement challenge is unique to them, rather than an isolated condition with a universal treatment protocol.
  • Each person’s challenge exists within an environment specific to them, as well as their personal constitution, life history, daily habits, desires and goals.
I approach every body uniquely, with curiosity about the individual before me.

Whether your life is big and busy or simple and quiet, the one constant from beginning to end is the body you live in.

At 70, I feel I owe a good deal of my physical health to working with Susan. Whether it's a cranky knee, a herniated disk or recovery from abdominal surgery, Susan has kept me active over the last decade by giving me movement programs that are fine-tailored to my conditions at the time. She always has my ultimate goals in mind--whether it's getting through the next 5 months or the next 5 years. And a more kind, conscientious, and caring human movement coach would be very hard to find.

My credentials

I specialize in functional movement, pre- and post-habilitation, injury prevention, postural balance and stability. I also address the universal need to counteract the damaging effects of prolonged sitting, as well as to have true core strength and stability.

Before moving to the Triangle area in 2022, I worked in a variety of settings throughout the D.C. metro area, including clients’ homes, large and small health clubs and my own private studio.

For several years I was Director of Fitness Services at the National Center for Weight and Wellness in Washington, D.C., where I was part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing education, instruction and guidance to patients with a wide range of medical issues.
